Oh man, I did it again. Instead of popping in Dragon Age II (my current Game of Shame), I bought Shadow Complex (on sale this week, 50% off on XBLA) and played that for like two hours earlier. I can’t complain, the game is good.
For those who don’t know, it’s a Metroid clone but set in a modern day style area. The basic story goes that you and your girlfriend are going exploring inside a cave. She gets kidnapped because she ran across an underground base for some evil people. You then proceed to try to save her. Simple story, simple game mechanics, but a lot of fun!
Just like Metroid, you get different weapons and each Weapon can be used to blow up different doors/vents/rocks/etc. and open the way to a new area. There are upgrades. A lot of upgrades. I think the amount of grenades you can hold can be upgraded 30 times, with each upgrade adding an additional 2 I believe. This is a crazy amount of upgrades!
That’s really all I have to say right now about it because I haven’t gotten too far into the game yet. I have unlocked grenades, but that’s about it. I think there is five or six different weapon types in all (all different guns count as a single weapon type and it seems that you can only carry 1 gun at a time. i.e. when I found the AK, I dropped my pistol) and you can usually gauge the length of these games by when you get a new weapon.
I think I remember reading the game is somewhere around 10 hours, although I’m not sure about it. If anyone has beat it, leave a comment and let me know how long it took you and also what your impressions of the game are!
